Welcome to Cannon Music Camp

A three-week music-filled retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Cannon Music Camp offers the most comprehensive course of musical instruction in the Southeast, with intensive college preparatory work in performance and music theory. Campers participate in daily ensemble rehearsals and music theory classes in an atmosphere that elevates everyone’s musicianship. Equally important is the one-on-one instruction each camper receives in weekly private lessons.  Open to serious student musicians who are rising high school freshmen to rising college freshmen. Applications open December 3rd and close the day prior to camp.

Cannon Music Camp is for serious student musicians who are rising high school freshman to graduating seniors. You will learn and perform with the Hayes School of Music Faculty . Finale Performances are held in Rosen Concert Hall. Attending our summer camp is a great way to learn about the Hayes School of Music, our faculty and staff along with the campus and surrounding area of Boone, North Carolina.

In Memory and Honor of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Cannon

Cannon Music Camp would like to acknowledge the continuing financial support of The Mariam and Robert Hayes Charitable Trust. Without this support, this outstanding musical experience would not be possible. If you are interested in a brief history of the camp, please see the attached PDF.

2020 Cannon Music Camp

COVID-19 Update and Its Impact on the 52nd Cannon Music Camp!

Cannon Music Camp Campers, Faculty, Staff, and Parents:
While our communities have changed rapidly over the past few weeks as we seek to understand the impact and implications of the COVID-19 virus in the short and long term, we want to assure you that we are also hopeful and forward-thinking for this summer’s fifty-second season of Cannon Music Camp.

Appalachian State University, our Office of Camps and Conferences and the Hayes School of Music/Cannon Music Camp administrative staff continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely. It is our desire to be proactive and share with you that at this point we are continuing plans for Cannon Music Camp as scheduled for this summer.
We know it is very difficult for all of us to comprehend what our plans maybe this summer as we currently face this virus. At the same time, we at Cannon Music Camp want to try to be forward-thinking with a hope to a return of normalcy (as much as possible after COVID-19 settles) in our communities that include summer experiences for students.

If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling in Cannon Music Camp for this summer but is reluctant due to potential COVID-19 uncertainty, we will offer full refunds on any registration deposit through June 1.

If your family needs to cancel participation for any reason, we will be issuing full refunds until June 1. This timeline may be adjusted as we work with students that may be dealing with instances of COVID-19 in their families, school rescheduling issues, or signs of illness approaching the start of camp. In the event that Cannon Music Camp must be canceled this summer, please be assured you would be issued a full refund.

All of our camp operation decisions will be made with careful consultation with our University partners. Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety, and wellness of our campers. Rest assured we will not try to operate our camp without complete confidence we are prepared to do so. In light of COVID-19 careful attention is being made to our daily operational plan for camp and practices with our students to ensure our compliance with University, local, state, and national health recommendations.

Please feel free to contact Greg Snodgrass in our camp office at cannonmusiccamp@appstate.edu or 828-262-4091 with any specific questions or concerns.
Please check this website frequently for updates and further information.

We are hopeful for this summer’s camp season to continue to support the musical growth of our students.
